Tea – How I Make My Chai Tea Latte

One of my favorite morning teas in the fall and winter is a chai tea latte. While you can buy some nice ones already made, I much prefer to make my own at home. It saves money and I can control what is in it. I personally prefer the Rishi Masala Chai tea blend which I purchase on Amazon. Since this is a loose leaf tea and I like it strong I prefer to use a t-sac to contain my tea leaves. I have tried a tea ball in the past and it just does not hold enough tea leaves to make it strong enough for my tastes. The t-sac is also nice because you can compost it along with the tea leaves.

To measure my tea I use a perfect tea spoon which I purchased from Teavanna. Each scoop is approximately 1.25 teaspoons in size. You can purchase a similar tea spoon on Amazon.

To make the tea I add 2.5 spoons (just over 1 tablespoon) of tea leaves to the T-sac pouch. I then stick a chopstick through the top of the pouch and set that over the top of my cup with the t-sac hanging in the cup. You can see this demonstrated in the video below.

Add boiling water to fill the cup making sure the tea leaves are submerged. Let steep for 4 minutes and then remove the tea leaves. Add sugar to taste, I use 2 heaping tablespoons, and a splash of milk. Now go enjoy your delicious chai tea latte.
